PURPOSE OF JOB
This student placement role is designed to give hands-on experience in IT support within a professional environment. The role will provide first-line technical support to employees across various locations, helping to resolve common IT issues and service requests. The placement will also offer opportunities to learn and assist with IT systems and applications, as well as contribute to team projects.
This is a development-focused role, giving students valuable insight into working within a professional IT team, while also building essential technical and communication skills.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
- Gain an understanding of how JTC operates as a professional services business and how the IT department adds value.
- Assist with responding to IT helpdesk tickets, troubleshooting basic hardware, software, and system issues.
- Help support and maintain core IT systems such as Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Active Directory, and Citrix under supervision.
- Learn to install, configure, and update computer hardware, peripherals, and software applications.
- Shadow IT team members during system maintenance and upgrades to gain real-world experience.
- Assist in delivering basic IT inductions and training for new users on essential tools like Microsoft Teams, Outlook, and security awareness.
- Contribute to the creation and updating of IT documentation and guides for common processes and issues.
- Collaborate with the wider IT team and other departments to learn problem-solving approaches in IT service delivery.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Currently studying or recently completed A-Levels, BTEC, or equivalent qualifications (preferably in IT, Computer Science, or a related subject).
- Interest in pursuing a career in IT, IT support, or technology-related fields.
- Flexible availability, open to students seeking part-time, gap-year, or ongoing placements throughout the academic year.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with an approachable and professional attitude.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and a general interest in IT hardware and software.
