Supporting Working Caregivers: JTC’s Care Together Initiative.

Care Together forms one of JTC’s six inclusion-focused employee resource groups and is revolved around supporting working caregivers.

It exists to recognise the needs of caregivers – employees managing care responsibilities – share educational resources to support them, encourage empathy and provide a welcoming space for colleagues to connect and share experiences. Caregiver responsibilities will affect many of us throughout our lives, whether it’s caring for children, elderly relatives or loved ones with additional needs. So, it is vital that we recognise how our community can support one another to ensure a healthy work-life balance.

Why supporting working caregivers matters

Additional care responsibilities affect many of us throughout our lives. Whether you’re raising children, supporting elderly relatives, or caring for loved ones with additional needs, the challenge is real. Research shows that working caregivers without adequate support face burnout, reduced engagement, and career stagnation. At JTC, we believe that workplace support for working caregivers creates an inclusive culture where diverse life circumstances are valued and enabled.

 How JTC supports working caregivers

“Our mission is to ensure every carer feels valued and understood so they can flourish both personally and professionally. By working together, sharing our stories and advocating for each other, we’re building a culture of genuine compassion and respect at work.” – Jessica Reyneke, Project Director, Care Together Chair

To mark Carers Week, beginning 8 June, the group invited two speakers, to share their experience and advice:

Nicola Holmes, Group Director – Discussed balancing career, care and family life providing a practical perspective on wellbeing and sustainable success

Jonathan Lunsford, CEO Shield Proactive Maintenance – Discussed leading with vision and resilience whilst navigating family responsibilities, health challenges and work

The insightful presentation was open to all colleagues at JTC to listen and learn as the speakers delved into their experiences balancing care with work and wellbeing, whilst providing practical tips to avoid caregiver burnout.

“Achieving success across both professional and family life requires continuous and dynamic prioritisation of work, personal responsibilities and individual wellbeing.  Often, when becoming a parent, our personal wellbeing comes last on the list of focus areas.  Sustainable success is built on making consistent, intentional choices and adapting to prioritise what matters most. As every individual’s circumstances are different, establishing a balance that works for you is critical.  This is relevant not just to parents, but across many of situations where individuals have caring responsibilities, so it was great to speak to a topic which can have such a wide-ranging impact on those within the business.”- Nicola Homes, Group Director

Workplace inclusion initiatives at JTC

This is one of the many great initiatives from our six inclusion groups, which were established earlier this year. Each one offers insight into communities so we may platform important discussions and better support them in the workplace.
