The Next Generation of Legal Talent at JTC Law

At JTC Law, the future of law is not about technology replacing tradition, but combining innovation with mentoring, commercial awareness, human connection and sound legal judgement.

The firm continues to grow at rapid speed and has a purposeful intention of being shaped by talented people, fresh perspectives and a clear commitment to developing the next generation of legal talent. As the legal market becomes more technology-driven, lawyers must continue to learn, collaborate and grow alongside these changes.

Recently, April Hargreaves, Associate in JTC Law’s Investment Funds and Corporate team, spoke to Jersey-based Gallery Magazine about her career growth since joining the firm. April’s journey reflects what sets JTC Law apart: a modern mindset, investment in people and a determination to keep evolving. As the firm grows, so does its next generation of talent.

1. What attracted you to a career in law and what brought you to JTC Law?

It started with watching too many courtroom dramas and thinking law looked very glamorous. Thankfully, I discovered there’s much more to law than dramatic cross-examinations and people shouting “objection”. I realised what really appealed to me was that the fact that lawyers help people solve problems.

Whether supporting a complex transaction or protecting business interests, you work with people who genuinely value your advice. That sense of purpose is what drew me in.

JTC Law stood out because it combines high-quality international corporate and funds work with the backing of the wider JTC Group. The culture was the deciding factor: collaborative, approachable and genuinely invested in helping people succeed.

2. How has your role developed since you joined JTC Law?

Since joining, I’ve taken on more responsibility, built confidence and had more direct client interaction. Junior lawyers are trusted from day one, encouraged to contribute meaningfully and take ownership of work, which accelerates development.

I’ve especially valued the balance between high-quality work and strong client relationships. It’s fast-paced, but collaborative, and that has helped me grow both technically and commercially.

3. What have been some of the most important learning experiences in your career so far?

One of the biggest lessons has been realising that no lawyer knows everything, and that’s completely normal. Law is a profession of constant learning, and some of the biggest lessons come from the busiest, most challenging moments.

Tight deadlines and complex matters can be daunting, but they build confidence. I’ve learned the value of staying calm under pressure, thinking commercially and remembering that legal work is always a team effort.

4. How have colleagues or mentors supported your development?

The people around you make a huge difference. I’ve been fortunate to work with colleagues who are not only technically strong but also supportive and approachable. At JTC Law, seniors encourage junior team members to ask questions, share ideas and take ownership. That balance of guidance and responsibility is invaluable.

5. What are your career ambitions, and how do you see JTC Law helping you achieve them?

To keep progressing by developing technical expertise, commercial awareness and trusted client relationships. I want to continue building experience, learning from leading professionals and growing within this forward-thinking business.

Long term, I’d like to progress into a senior associate and eventually partner role, while also mentoring junior lawyers. Having benefited from strong support myself, I’d like to give that back as my career develops.
