JTC SUPPORTS ASPIRATIONS OF YOUNG ISLAND SWIMMERS

JTC will be supporting the Jersey Swimming Club this year, allowing more young competitors to swim off-Island.

The funding will help towards the costs of sending around 40 Club members to two competitions in Guernsey – the Beau Sejour Barracudas Open and the annual Junior Development Meet – and will also enable the Swimming Club to have more trophies made for its growing membership base.

As well as assisting with the costs of accommodation and travel, part of the funds will be used to provide a JTC branded t-shirt for each competitor as part of their kit for the galas, alongside the JTC branded poolside bags and water bottles which were presented at the Club’s prizegiving in January.

While trophies have traditionally been awarded to the older swimmers, JTC’s support now means that the growing number of under-9s can also be recognised in this way. It is hoped that this will give the Club’s younger swimmers something to aim for and a sense of achievement and pride, and encourage more participation.

Commenting on JTC’s sponsorship of the Club, Giles Le Sueur, Jersey Swimming Club Treasurer, said:
“We are so grateful for JTC’s support, which is incredibly important for helping us provide opportunities for our young swimmers who train extremely hard to reach their goals. It can be very costly for parents whose children want to participate in off-Island galas, so the funding means that more children can have that opportunity. It is also wonderful that our youngest swimmers now have the opportunity to compete for more trophies this year, and all our swimmers were extremely appreciative of the ‘Goodie Bags’ that were presented at our awards evening.”

Wendy Holley, Chief Operating Officer, JTC also commented:
“It is clear that the Jersey Swimming Club means a lot to young people on the Island, whether they are competitive or do it for fun. We are proud to be able to support the swimmers in achieving their goals and improving in the sport, as well as contributing to something which really boosts their health and confidence.”
