Depositary Assistant Manager

ROLE OVERVIEW

PURPOSE OF JOB

JTCL introduced its full depositary services offering in 2019. The offering supports Regulated investment funds in the EU that are required to appoint a depositary to comply with the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive (AIFMD). The Depositary Assistant Manager will work closely with the Depositary Manager/Head of Depositary and provide support within the team to ensure we complete our depositary activities to a high standard and in line with department and client reporting deadlines.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

  • Monitor fund cash flows and verify that investor subscriptions, redemptions, and settlement activities are processed appropriately.
  • Perform safekeeping oversight of fund assets, including ownership verification and recordkeeping for assets not held in custody.
  • Review and oversee key fund operations, including valuation, dealing, income distribution, and compliance with constitutional documents and applicable regulations
  • Conduct periodic controls and reconciliations to identify exceptions, breaks, or unusual activity, and ensure timely escalation and resolution.
  • Liaise with fund administrators, investment managers, custodians, transfer agents, auditors, and other service providers on operational and oversight matters.
  • Assist in the review of new funds, fund events, and changes to fund structures, service providers, or investment strategies from a depositary oversight perspective.
  • Prepare management information, oversight reports, committee papers, and client deliverables to a high standard and within deadlines.
  • Support regulatory, internal, and external audit requests by gathering documentation and providing clear responses.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and enhancement of depositary procedures, controls, and operating models.
  •  Supervise and support junior team members, including review of work, coaching, and development.
  • Help ensure that issues, breaches, and risk events are recorded, investigated, and escalated in line with internal governance requirements.
  • Participate in client meetings and help maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support process improvement initiatives, system enhancements, and projects affecting depositary operations.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, Economics, Law, Finance, or equivalent.
  • 3 – 4 years’ experience in depositary, custody oversight, fund administration, or a related fund services environment.
  • Good understanding of the regulatory framework applicable to depositary services and investment funds.
  • Strong understanding of depositary duties, fund operations, and oversight controls.
  • Good knowledge of investment funds, fund structures, and core service provider roles.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain high standards of accuracy.
  • Sound organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with internal teams, clients, and external service providers.
  • Good problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to issue resolution.
  • Confidence in reviewing data, reconciliations, and oversight reporting.
  • Ability to supervise, review, and support the work of more junior team members.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience reviewing fund operations such as cash flow monitoring, safekeeping, asset verification, and oversight controls.
  • Experience working with multiple stakeholders including administrators, custodians, investment managers, and auditors.
  • Experience preparing reports, control evidence, and management information.
  • Proven ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team environment.
