After months of disruption to sporting events, the Luxembourg National Cricket Team, sponsored by JTC, were delighted to be able to compete in the Tri Series Tournament last weekend. Held between Friday 28th and Sunday 30th August, it featured the national cricket teams of Luxembourg, Czech Republic and Belgium. JTC’s very own Joost Mees, Jurisdictional Managing Director, was also proud to stand as the National Team Captain this year.
After three days of round robin competition between the teams, Luxembourg managed to finish second place, based on a net run rate of one win over the Czech Republic. Joost also managed to finish as second best batsman of the tournament with a top score of 67 not out, which is currently the highest score for Luxembourg in the t20i Internationals.
Luxembourg has been an ICC Associate member since 1998, with their cricketing profile going from strength to strength in recent years. The National Team is made up of 200 regular players, picked from various local cricket teams. JTC was proud to be invited this year as a gold sponsor for the Team, with JTC’s branding featuring on the National Team’s playing kit and warm up clothing.
Joost Mees, Jurisdictional Managing Director, was very thankful for JTC’s support and said:
“On behalf of the Luxembourg National Cricket Team we have been delighted that JTC has been willing to sponsor the National Team for the year 2020. Even though the cricket calendar in general has been very much affected by COVID-19, we are proud to have been able to host our first ICC authorized T20i Tournament in Luxembourg.
“The financial support from JTC has been instrumental in our development as a cricketing nation this year and we are hopeful that we can continue to count on the support of JTC. I am very proud of our team’s performance over the weekend and am proud as well for finishing as the second best batsman in the tournament!”
The Team will be playing in an upcoming 6 team tournament in Czech Republic later in September.
