Yamkela Siyotula Talks Growing His Confidence and Internships

At JTC’s South Africa office, career development takes centre stage through our dynamic student internship scheme. Whether joining us for 12 months or a shorter four-month placement, interns gain valuable hands-on experience at a professional services firm – developing new skills, growing their confidence and laying the foundation for future success.

One inspiring example is Yamkela Siyotula, who first arrived in 2024 to assist with CDD world check documentation. Fast forward, and Yamkela is now a full-time Junior Funds Accountant at JTC. We caught up with him to discuss his internship journey, insights and what truly sets JTC apart.

What were some of the most significant learning experiences or challenges you encountered in your role?

My internship was a really valuable learning experience. I gained hands-on skills using Purefunds, including creating new investor portfolios, updating records and generating portfolio balance, activity and pricing reports. Stepping into my first role in the financial sector was challenging at times, but the supportive team around me made all the difference and helped me navigate every obstacle with confidence.

Can you share a memorable highlight from your time at JTC during your work experience?

It’s hard to pick just one memorable highlight from my internship because I genuinely enjoyed every moment and made the most of every learning opportunity. I especially appreciated the trust my team placed in me to work independently. Successfully completing my tasks within deadlines not only built my skills, but also gave my confidence a real boost.

What motivated you to pursue a permanent position at JTC following your work experience?

I wanted to pursue a permanent position because I love JTC and everything it stands for. What I really noticed was the culture of professional growth and development. There are a lot of young people holding fantastic and senior positions, showing that if a person works hard, there are a lot of opportunities for growth.

In your view, what sets JTC’s culture apart from other organisations?

Shared ownership is one of the best parts of JTC culture because it creates accountability and higher engagement as you know you are part owner of a company and the more it grows, the more you also benefit. The teamwork and collaboration of the people here are out of this world. I like the fact you are able to ask anyone for help, regardless of their position. We also very much enjoy having a good social event calendar and being connected out of the office really contributes to what makes the people here friendly.
