ROLE OVERVIEW
PURPOSE OF JOB
The Commercial Office works in partnership with the Private Client Services and Institutional Client Services divisions to identify and deliver profitable growth opportunities from the intersection of existing clients, M&A and innovation through horizon-scanning leading to new product development.
The Director – Commercial Office will establish and lead a Group-wide approach to product and service innovation. Implement a governance structure that enables effective assessment, oversight, alignment and prioritisation of product and service innovation initiatives. This role will drive the review and optimisation of the Group’s product and service portfolio, ensuring alignment with client needs, profitability thresholds, and risk appetite. In addition, the role will lead on strategic innovation projects, bringing to market new solutions that leverage JTC’s scale and client base, with a focus initially on banking & treasury, custody & investments, and insurance, among other more emergent solutions as a Jersey Data Unit Trusts (JDUTs).
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Innovation Governance
- Design and implement a governance framework to assess, prioritise, and monitor innovation initiatives across all business lines.
- Establish approval mechanisms, reporting cadences, and KPIs for innovation-related activities.
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration and ensure alignment with Group strategy, risk appetite and budget.
- Promote transparency and accountability in innovation decision-making.
Innovation & New Proposition Development
- Lead the delivery of in-flight innovation projects (e.g. banking & treasury, custody & investments, insurance) and emergent innovations such as Jersey Data Unit Trusts (JDUTs).
- Working with the divisional teams including the marketing department identify unmet client needs and market opportunities across regions and service lines.
- Develop business cases for new products and services, coordinating with subject matter experts, technology, risk & compliance and client-facing teams.
- Oversee go-to-market planning and launch execution (internal and external).
Product & Service Portfolio Review
- Build a continuous review cycle and trigger event review standard for all JTC Group products and services.
- Assess commercial viability, client relevance, profitability, competitiveness, and risk alignment of each offering.
- Recommend actions to enhance, retire, reprice, or reposition products as needed.
- Maintain a central repository of product information, with oversight on performance metrics and client uptake.
Leadership and Management
- Lead and inspire team and wider business areas in driving innovation aligned to JTC’s vision, business goals and timelines.
- Uphold the Group’s policies and standards, ensuring legislative regulations are followed.
- Undertake any other duties as required.
- Adhere to Risk & Compliance procedures in relation to regulatory requirements and AML legislation.
- Adhere to JTC core values and expected behaviours.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Proven experience in product innovation, governance or commercial strategy within professional or financial services.
- Strong commercial acumen with track record of evaluating and optimising product and service portfolios.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and risk considerations related to service innovation.
- Demonstrated ability to design and embed cross-functional governance structures that support growth and innovation.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills across global teams.
- Strategic thinker with an entrepreneurial mindset and a strong execution bias.
- Ideally, experience or knowledge in trust, corporate services, private funds, banking/treasury, custody or insurance.
